Sweet Potato Gratin


Serves 8-10

4 sweet potatoes sliced ¼” thick

2 cups of sharp cheddar

½ cup of Gruyere cheese

1 jar of Just Jan’s Balsamic Onion Savory Spread

1 tsp Just Jan’s Mango Chipotle Spread

¼  cup unsalted butter

1 cup milk

1 cup half and half

¼ cup all purpose flour

1 tsp onion powder

Pinch of nutmeg

Black pepper to taste

Dash of white pepper

Dash Paprika


In a small pan on low heat, melt the butter then mix in flour stirring until flour is fully incorporated. Stir in milk and half and half, slowly whisk until mixture begins to thicken.

Add seasonings, Gruyere cheese and 1 cup of the sharp cheddar cheese.

Mix until smooth and remove from heat.

Butter the inside of a 9”x12” baking dish.  Layer bottom of pan with sliced sweet potatoes, spread a thin layer of cheese sauce over potatoes. Dot Balsamic Onion Spread over the top of the first layer, then sprinkle with 1/4 reserved shredded cheddar.

Repeat layering process for 4 more layers.

Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake at 425º for 1 hour. Remove foil, return to oven and bake an additional 10 minutes to brown.
